Photographic Honours

Peter has been awarded a Fellowship of the AIPP, an Honorary Fellowship of the AIPP and an Honorary Fellowship of the NZIPP.

Fellowship (FAIPP)

A Fellowship is the highest achievement that the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professioal Photography) can bestow and is a rare honour with only a few photographers having attained this level of recognition in the Australian photographic industry. The process is not meant to be difficult or restrictive, but is reflective of the degree of elevation with which these standards are being associated. Because of the high level of entry, there will only ever be a small number of people with this title. It is a title for the 'best of the best'.

A Fellowship must represent Excellence in Photography as well as Service to the Industry. Excellence in photography means a distinguished career - a recipient of APP Awards, Master, and Professional Photographer of the Year titles, visible in the photo press and recognised on the lecture circuit. They will have made great images that have provided inspiration to photographers, the industry and to the public. The Service component is in addition and is the same as for Honorary Fellowship.

Honorary Fellowship (Hon. FAIPP)

This title is awarded for recognition of Outstanding and Long Service to the Industry. This is usually given at the successful completion of a large project or at the continuation or end of a long period of service time.

It is given for consistent and exemplary service within our profession, a reward for hard work and unselfish commitment to the industry. For members of the AIPP receiving this title, it can also include service within the AIPP including work on the national board, chairs of subcommittees and representation on other key committees.

This title is also awarded to non-members of the AIPP who fit the criteria of Fellowship. Past examples are Max Dupain, Olive Cotton and David Moore.

Honorary Fellowship (Hon. NZIPP)

In a similar manner the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography has recognised Peter's service and influence on the New Zealand photography profession.
